About East Coast Exotic Haven

On April 13, 2018 the dream became a reality when the doors opened to the first exclusive captive bred reptile and bird haven opened in Far North Queensland- called FNQ Exotic Haven.

Shortly after opening it was bought to the attention of the that there was limited local services available for various specific species of native wildlife. Due to their dedication and passion it was decided to branch out and also assist injured and orphaned native wildlife.

Rescue, Rehabilitate, Rehome, Release & Repeat

There is over 30 years of experience and dedication in wildlife care and rehabilitation, reptile husbandry and aviculture. Along with studies in veterinary nursing and animal care.

7 months after opening, devastation for our native wildlife struck Far North Queensland on the 26 November 2018. Over 2 days, record temperatures reached over 42C which resulted in our natural treasure, the Spectacled Flying fox (Pteropus conspicillatus) shower from the trees dead and dieing.

For 5 days straight we set up a triage station, at the Murray Street flying fox camp. Volunteers dropped off supplies and Amanda and Jessie triaged the critical and collected the dead.

The total at that camp was approximately 150 lives saved, the death toll climbed to over 500.

Over that week it was witnessed that 1/3 of the entire Spectacled flying fox population died- 23,000.

These events, although not seen daily leave a lasting impact. The impact that burns deeply and makes one fight harder.

In December 2022, we made the hard decision to relocate to the Fraser Coast. We have since rebranded the charity and introduced our amazing supporters to East Coast Exotic Haven. Same amazing service, same passion and drive, just different location.

Charity

In a little over 2 years our small business exploded over night. The demand for our services expanded, and we took the plunge to become a charity.

On the 19 August 2020 we received the news we were hoping for, the Australian Charities and Not-for-profit Commission (ACNC) approved our application to become a Not For Profit Charity.

FNQ Wildlife Haven trading as FNQ Exotic Haven was officially born.

Following some additional work we received more exciting news, on the 5 October 2020 we obtained endorsement to be a Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR). The result being all donations valued over $2 are completely tax deductible.

December 2022 we rebranded and are now officially trading as East Coast Exotic Have.
